Rock n Roulette 2024: A She Rock She Rock Fundraiser
Join us for our fifth Rock n Roulette fundraiser, an unforgettable rock camp experience for women and gender-expansive individuals aged 19+. This exciting event brings musicians together to form bands, make new friends, write original songs, and perform at a rockin' showcase on December 8, 2024, at the Hook & Ladder Theater in Minneapolis while raising funds for She Rock She Rock.
In 2019, we raised a record-breaking $19,000+ and we're aiming to surpass that this year (our first year returning after the pandemic)! Participants will be grouped into bands based on their musical interests, location, and other factors, and each band will have a goal of raising $1,000. Your support will help us continue providing life-changing music programs for girls, women, and gender-expansive folks while empowering them to build self-confidence and form lasting connections.
Don't miss your chance to be part of this incredible event! Apply and help us make Rock n Roulette 2024 our most successful fundraiser yet!
Applications are now closed for 2024.

Additional FAQs
Who can participate in Rock n Roulette?
Rock n Roulette is open to female and gender-expansive musicians over the age of 19. You do not have to have past experience participating in She Rock She Rock programs to participate in Rock n Roulette! We have two ways to participate this year; the first way is to apply to be in a band, and the second way is to be a Band Consultant (see the second section below for more Band Consultant info).
Band Member Info
What level of musical experience is required to participate?
Musicians of all levels are welcome! If you've attended Women's Rock n Roll Retreat or Ladies Rock Camp, you're all set. For drummers, a simple beat is sufficient, while guitar, bass, and keyboard players should know a few chords. Singers need to carry a tune. We encourage experienced musicians to explore new instruments – it's a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skills!
Why are we using an application process instead of direct registration?
To ensure an amazing experience for all participants, we need to carefully consider the number and types of instruments in each band. This approach allows us to maintain a diverse mix of musicians, which may not be possible with a first-come, first-served registration system.
Do I have to own an instrument to participate in Rock n Roulette?
No! She Rock She Rock will be happy to loan you an instrument or any other gear you may need while you are practicing with your Rock n Roulette band. Additionally, we will provide all the backline (drum sets, amps, etc) at the show.
How many folks will be in each band?
We will be aiming to place 4-6 members in each band.
Do I have to rent/own a practice studio to participate?
You do not, but someone in your band will! We will make sure to put bands together where at least one member has a space for the band to rehearse.
Will bands have a “Band Coach” like at rock camp?
Sort of! Each band will be paired with a Band Consultant who will come to one of your band rehearsals and be available to answer emails and texts during your 8 weeks of rehearsals. They can consult/mentor with the band about songwriting, arranging cover songs, music equipment, band dynamics, and more!
Can I request to be with only people of my experience level?
No. Rock n Roulette is designed to bring together musicians of various skill levels and backgrounds for a collaborative and exciting fundraising experience. Bands formed during this event are short-term collaborations (although you may meet some lifetime friends and musical partners!) and serve as a platform for camaraderie, creativity, and community building. Embrace the diverse range of talent within your band, as members may have varying playing experience. The event aims to foster a supportive environment, promoting mentorship and growth while raising funds for a great cause.
I play a different instrument like ukulele, violin, etc- can I still apply?
Possibly! E-mail jenny@sherocksherock.com to discuss this option!
Can our band do cover songs? How long will our set be?
We are encouraging bands to write two original songs and no more than one cover song. Bands will get up to 15 minutes for their set, so plan accordingly!
What is the required time commitment to participate in this event?
Participants must have a flexible schedule that allows for a weekly rehearsal over the course of 8 weeks (October 7th to December 7th). In addition to the scheduled group practices, we encourage band members to allocate personal practice time. While some bands may choose to rehearse more frequently, all applicants are expected to commit to at least one weekly rehearsal throughout the event period. Typically, bands rehearse evenings and weekends, but again- that is up to each band to organize.
Do I have to fundraise to participate?
Yes, because this is She Rock She Rock’s yearly fundraising event, each band will have a goal of raising $1000. In past years, bands have gotten really creative- they've held bake sales and garage sales, and there have been participants with connections with local businesses who have collaborated on fundraising events. We even had a past participants busk outside the Wedge Co-op, and one person even built a guitar and raffled it off at the final showcase! Get creative! We even have a fundraising consultant on our Board of Directors who would love to meet with individuals or bands to brainstorm and come up with ideas together!
Where/when is the final showcase concert?
The final show will be for audience members ages 18+ (under 18 can attend accompanied by a parent/guardian) at the Hook & Ladder Theater in Minneapolis on December 8, 2024. It is open to anyone in the community who wants to support the amazing bands that will be formed!
How do I apply?
Applications are closed for 2024. The application period will remain open until September 26, after which we will carefully review all submissions. By September 30, we will notify applicants regarding their acceptance status and provide details on band assignments for those admitted. We appreciate your patience and enthusiasm during the selection process.
