FAQ's
How come my daughter has to pick a first AND second choice instrument?
Our camp is for girls who play or want to play electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards or drums. When you register, you will be asked for a first and second choice instrument. We will do everything in our power to honor your first choice, however, because we need to form bands with the right configuration of instruments, we might have to move you to your second choice. We will send you an email confirming your instrument selection at least 6 weeks before the start of camp.
Why isn't vocals it's own instrument this year?
We are offering vocal instruction to all the girls at camp this year, however, we feel it very beneficial for all singers to have knowledge of an instrument, as well as all instrumentalists being able to sing. We feel that offering instrument instruction to vocalists will help create a more well rounded theory knowldege. Keyboards is a great instrument to start with! In addition, we will be offering workshops focused on the vocal techniques of stage presence, mic technique and harmony singing.
Do you accept beginners at your camp?
Yes, we do accept all levels of players, beginners-advanced. However, it is HIGHLY recommended to have a little knowledge of your instrument under your belt before the first day of camp. It will make it much easier (and WAY more fun) for you AND your bandmates. If you are interested in taking some lessons, please contact us and we can help hook you up!
My daughter only has an acoustic guitar, can she use that at the camp?
Guitar and bass players MUST use electric instruments (they can be acoustic electric, but not just acoustic- they need to have a pickup in them to be heard over the drummers!). Our wonderful staff of musicians and volunteers may be able to help you out if you are not able to come up with an appropriate instrument before camp. Also, if you need advice in regards to purchasing an instrument, we can help with that too. Email jenny@girlsrocknrollretreat.com with further inquiries.
Do guitarists and bassists have to bring their own amps?
No, guitarists and bassists need to only bring their own instruments, picks and instrument cables. We provide amps, drumsets, microphones, keyboards, music stands, P.As for the campers to use.
Can my daughter request to be put into a band with a few of her friends who are also signing up?
We will take requests and try to honor them to the best of our ability, although we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case.
